About this document

Surkhi: Key Building Material Insights by Ankita Singh is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Surkhi is a pozzolanic material made by grinding burnt clay bricks to a powder. It is used as a substitute for sand in concrete and mortar, where it improves water resistance, resistance to alkalis and salts. Surkhi concrete exhibits less cracking and temperature rise during curing compared to normal concrete. When used to replace 10-30% of cement, surkhi concrete shows improved workability and reduced bleeding and segregation.
