What is Understanding the Vi Editor Modes about?
The vi editor has three modes - command mode, input mode, and ex mode. Command mode is the default mode where keyboard commands are executed. Input mode is entered to insert or append text. Ex mode allows commands to be entered in the last line to perform actions like searching, replacing, and writing files. Vi is invoked with the vi command and allows editing a file by moving the cursor, inserting/deleting text, searching/replacing patterns, copying/moving text, and saving files.
