What is Richard Bancroft: Archbishop of Canterbury about?
Richard Bancroft was the 74th Archbishop of Canterbury from 1604 to 1610. He was a stringent opponent of Puritanism and advocated for strict ecclesiastical hierarchy and tradition in the Church of England. As Archbishop, he helped establish doctrinal and liturgical standards for clergy and oversaw the translation of the King James Version of the Bible. He also increased persecution of Roman Catholics and aimed to root out Catholic influences in England.
