What is Sassoon about?

Siegfried Sassoon wrote a statement of wilful defiance against the continuation of World War I in July 1917. In the statement, he declared that he believed the war was being deliberately prolonged by those in power who could end it. As a soldier, Sassoon stated that he was acting on behalf of other soldiers and that the war had shifted from a war of defense and liberation to one of aggression and conquest. He protested against the political errors and insincerities for which soldiers were being sacrificed.
