Biomass energy is an important energy source in Turkey. This energy is especially the major source in rural Turkey. Biomass energy is used to meet a variety of energy needs, including heating homes and workplaces, generating electricity power, fueling motor vehicles and heating process for industrial production. The most important and interesting biomass energy source is fuelwood because of the total energy production in Turkey is about high at 27.6%. This study describes the situation and importance of biomass energy production, use and potential in Turkey. The current status of biomass energy and requirements for biomass energy production which plays an important and vital role for human life, the environment, and agriculture, have been examined.
