What is Autonomic Nervous System Pharmacology about?

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is largely independent of consciousness and controls functions like heart rate and digestion. The ANS is divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Transmitters in the ANS include acetylcholine and norepinephrine. Acetylcholine is the transmitter of parasympathetic fibers and some sympathetic fibers, while norepinephrine is the transmitter of most sympathetic fibers.
