1) Diborane (B2H6) contains 12 valence electrons that are used to form chemical bonds. 2) Four electrons are used to form four terminal B-H single bonds. The remaining four electrons form two bridging B-H-B three-center-two-electron "banana bonds". 3) Each boron atom is approximately sp3 hybridized, with two sp3 orbitals forming bonds to terminal hydrogen atoms and the other two combining with hydrogen 1s orbitals to form the bridging bonds.
