This systematic review and meta-analysis compares intramedullary nailing (IMN) to plating for fixation of extra-articular distal tibial metaphyseal fractures (DTF). Fourteen studies with 842 patients were included. The analysis found that IMN likely had better outcomes than plating for DTF, with higher functional scores, lower infection risk, and comparable pain scores, complication rates and time to union.
