White piedra is a superficial fungal infection of the hair shaft caused by Trichosporon species yeasts. It presents as soft, whitish nodules on the hair that are easily detached. Treatment involves shaving the infected hair or applying topical antifungal agents like miconazole or terbinafine for 2 weeks. Systemic antifungals may be used due to risk of relapse.
