About this document
Uniparental Disomy and Genomic Imprinting by chrysann is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Uniparental disomy (UPD) occurs when an offspring receives two copies of a chromosome from one parent and none from the other, which can result from errors during meiosis. Heterodisomy indicates a meiosis I error, while isodisomy indicates a meiosis II error or postzygotic duplication. Most cases of UPD result in a normal phenotype, but isodisomy can lead to recessive disorders like Prader-Willi and Angelman syndromes when one parent is a carrier.
