What is Model Predictive Control-based Energy Management Strategy for Grid-connected Residential Photovoltaic–wind–battery System about?

Most of the studies on grid-connected systems have designed different energy management strategies on maximizing different energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery, but there is a gap in reducing energy cost and the interaction between the power generation, the load demand, and the grid. Likewise, the profit from managing the excess energy sold to the main grid has been discussed. The optimal control considered in these studies is an open-loop strategy due to the absence of feedback that makes the system susceptible to disturbances in RES and load. Therefore the major addition of this study is to apply an MPC strategy and to compare it with an open-loop control to validate the developed method. Meanwhile, other objectives applied to the model are to encourage the employment of RES and to benefit from the feed-in tariffs (FITs). As such the battery degradation cost can be higher, the MPC should allow the battery to buy energy from the grid during low price hours. Therefore the system can prevent simultaneously the decreasing lifetime of the battery due to the sudden charging/discharging decisions caused by the successive fluctuations in renewable power generation
