This document describes the synthesis and characterization of transition metal complexes derived from a tridentate hydrazone ligand. The ligand was prepared from the condensation of cephalexin antibiotic with 2-hydrazinopyridine. Transition metal complexes with the general formula [ML(OAc)(H2O)] were synthesized where M is Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn or Ag. The complexes were characterized using various analytical techniques and their magnetic properties, spectroscopic data, and antibacterial activity were studied.
