Sagina decumbens, a plant species native to North America, is newly reported from Japan. Specimens belonging to this species were collected from Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture in 2009 and Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture in 1995. Two subspecies are recognized in S. decumbens: subsp. decumbens, which is distributed along the east coast of North America, and subsp. occidentalis, which is distributed along the west coast.
