The kingdom of Prambanan was attacked by Pengging forces and came under their rule, led by the powerful Bondowoso who had genie forces. Bondowoso became attracted to the beautiful Princess Jonggrang of Prambanan and asked her to be his wife, but she refused unless he could build 1,000 temples overnight with his genies.
