Benzodiazepine Overview and Analysis by David Castillo Lopez is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Benzodiazepines are psychoactive drugs that act as sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant medications. They are prescribed for conditions like anxiety, insomnia, agitation, seizures and muscle spasms. The first benzodiazepine was chlordiazepoxide, discovered in 1955. Benzodiazepines work by enhancing the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA, producing a calming effect. They are metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine, with effects lasting from a few hours to over 20 hours
