This case study describes a rare case of benzocaine-induced methaemoglobinaemia in a 5-year-old girl following adeno-tonsillectomy. On the 8th postoperative day, benzocaine was topically applied for relief of wound pain, and two hours later the girl developed cyanosis, mild dyspnea, and agitation. Her methaemoglobin level was found to be 38.5%. She was treated with methylene blue, and her symptoms completely disappeared four hours later.
