What is Origins and Development of Greek Tragedy about?

Tragedy was performed at festivals of Dionysus in Athens. Poets would present a tetralogy of three tragedies and one satyr play. Tragedy originated from the dithyramb, a choral song and dance honoring Dionysus. Over time, it became more formalized with stories from mythology and the addition of an actor allowing more complex plots. Thespis is considered the first true dramatist for introducing an actor to represent characters other than the chorus.
