What is Editorial about?

## Happy New Year! We now are starting the third year of Journal of Optical Communications with 6 issues per year. The decision -as already mentioned in one of my former editorials -was good, since the number of subscribers stayed the same and there are first signs of a reduced time gap between submission and publication of manuscripts, which is essential for both authors and readers. The New Year 1995 starts in Germany with a lot of hopes with respect to economy though the unemployment rate seems to be not affected. However, in other parts of the world there are more severe problems to be solved. I wish all of you a Happy New Year, health (most important) and success in combination with some luck (which quite often is necessary for success).
