What is Apollonius of Perga: Conics Overview about?

1) Apollonius was born in Perga in Asia Minor and likely descended from priests of Apollo. He studied in Ephesus under Eudemus and in Alexandria. 2) His major work was the seven book treatise Conic Sections, where he systematically studied parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas. 3) Conic sections had been studied previously, including by Menaechmus who related them to solving the Delian problem of doubling the cube and defined them as sections of cones.
