<p>In this book-the second volume of his study of South Africa-Steven Debroey pays special attention to race relations, without losing sight of the historical context. He describes the coming into existence of the African National Congress (ANC), the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) and other resistance movements; how, for half a century, the ANC fought in vain for the rights of the oppressed by peaceful means and the circumstances that have made the ANC respond to violence with violence. Debroey devoted eleven years of his life to this study. During 14 study tours, he travelled all over South Africa and witnessed the fatal consequences of an ideology that is rightly denounced throughout the world. As he was greatly concerned about the reliability of his data, he had his manuscript checked by a South African historian.
