What is Properties of Multi-particle Spaces about?

Many-fermion spaces are investigated with emphasis on the role of independent particle motion. A "determinantal measure" is introduced and its mathematical properties are analyzed. The relation to Hartree-Fock theory is discussed. Possible extensions are described and their significance pointed out. ## I. INTR~DuCTI~N The many-body theory transcends the boundaries of any specific field of theoretical physics, and is relevant to many, indeed. Its concepts, methods and nomenclature appear in among others, atomic physics, nuclear physics, and solid state physics. It has achieved, in fact, enough prominence to be treated independently as a separate field. In this paper, we present a treatment of the theory which has no direct connection to any specific field or particular physical system. As such, the treatment is essentially of a mathematical nature. Nevertheless, we shall try to make various inferences and deductions which are, so we trust, relevant to actual physical theories. Multi-particle spaces make a vast subject. Here we shall center our attention around the concept of independent motion of many identical fermions [I]. Theories which utilize this concept in a fundamental way a
