About this document
Understanding Chemical Bonding Concepts by waafiyatul amanah is a document available to read on EtoBox.
1) When two atomic orbitals overlap, it forms molecular orbitals through a process called linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO). 2) Chemical bonds are formed by the overlap of atomic orbitals. A σ bond is formed by head-on overlap while a π bond is formed by sideways overlap of parallel p orbitals. 3) The geometry of molecules is determined by the type of hybridized orbitals of the central atom - sp3 hybridization leads to tetrahedral, sp2 to trigonal planar and sp to linear geometry.
