Port security risks are estimated using spatial security risk (SSR) maps. SSR is calculated based on criticality, effectiveness, and susceptibility in different areas of the port. Criticality measures consequences of failure, effectiveness measures how well defenses work, and susceptibility measures inherent weaknesses making an area open to attack. SSR maps estimate risk at the sea surface and underwater to help decide optimal sensor placements and defensive configurations.
