Ramses I was the first pharaoh of the 19th dynasty of Egypt who reigned for a relatively short time between 1292-1290 BC or 1295-1294 BC. As a common man, he rose through the military ranks and became a close confidant to the pharaoh. After the death of Horemheb, who had no surviving sons, Ramses I ascended to the throne at the age of 50. His reign was brief and he accomplished little before his death, but his son Seti I completed many of his building projects.
