Over 2,000 Japanese men, women and children were deported from Peru in 1943 due to security concerns and interned in the US for the duration of the war. After the war, the Peruvian government refused to allow them to return and the US prepared to deport them under an agreement between American states. However, several hundred fought deportation and eventually gained the right to reside in the US.
