This study investigates the association between estimated levels of particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure from controlled burning of oil and gas during the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) among oil spill workers. The study followed 9,091 oil spill workers for up to 10 years after the spill. Higher levels of both average and cumulative PM2.5 exposure were associated with increased hazards of CHD events in a dose-response manner.
