The Water Cube, designed by Arup for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was completed on time and within budget. It hosted swimming, diving and water polo events and became an iconic venue. The design was selected from 10 shortlisted entries and delivered the ambitious technical requirements of the client within 12 weeks. Effective project management and communication were essential given the complex technical challenges and short timeline for an international project in a new cultural context.
