This article presents a novel method for predicting the linear sway velocity derivative (YV′) in modern ship hulls, addressing discrepancies in traditional empirical formulations. The authors conducted 690 virtual static drift tests on 115 modern hull forms, leading to an updated regression model that significantly improves prediction accuracy in ship maneuvering. Validation results show a maximum relative error of 4.7% for YV′, and the new approach reduces the absolute relative error in standard maneuvers
