The cavalry of the Anglo-Allied Army was commanded by lt-general the Earl of Uxbridge and consisted of seven Brigades. These Brigades included the British and those of the Kings German Legion; a Hanoverian Brigade, five squadrons of Brunswick cavalry and three Brigades of Dutch-Belgians. Before the commencement of hostilities the British were stationed at Grammont, in and around Nivove and in villages bordering the river Derider
