Microsoft first released Windows 1.0 in 1985 and has since released new versions on a regular basis, with some of the most notable being Windows 95 in 1995, Windows XP in 2001, Windows 7 in 2009, and Windows 10 in 2015. Each new version built upon the previous ones with additional features and functionality. Windows evolved from its early graphical user interface beginnings into the modern operating system used by the majority of personal computers worldwide today.
