What is Metamorphic Rocks: Formation and Types about?

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been changed from their original form due to heat, pressure, and fluid activity within the Earth. There are two types of metamorphic rocks - foliated and non-foliated. Foliated rocks display layers as the minerals are flattened and pushed into parallel sheets. Examples are slate, shale and gneiss. Non-foliated rocks do not have obvious banding as the mineral grains rearrange without forming layers, examples being quartzite and marble.
