This document proposes an approach called speculative remote display to improve responsiveness of remote display systems over wide-area networks. The client predicts and applies screen updates before receiving them from the server. Incorrect predictions are undone when actual updates arrive. Even a naive prediction method correctly predicts the next event 25-45% of the time based on a user study, showing promise for this approach.
