This study analyzed the relationship between dairy farm audit outcomes and bulk milk laboratory test results to develop a risk-based approach for selecting farms for auditing. Farms with higher levels of somatic cell count, total bacterial count, antimicrobial drug residues, and butyric acid spores in bulk milk samples were more likely to fail audits. A risk-based selection approach based on these factors could identify 25-75% of farms with poor standards by auditing only 8-47% of farms.
