Alfred Cort Haddon was a British anthropologist born in 1855 who was one of the founders of modern British anthropology. He studied at Cambridge where he helped establish anthropology as a field of science. In 1888 he traveled to the Torres Strait and became interested in studying indigenous peoples. He later organized influential anthropological expeditions and published over 600 works covering many aspects of human societies.
