The laser scanner unit (LSU) scans video data received from the video controller using a laser beam and rotating polygon mirror to create a latent image on the OPC drum. The OPC drum rotates at the same speed as the paper and creates sync signals that are detected by the engine to arrange the vertical lines of the image on paper. After each sync signal, image data is sent to the LSU to arrange the margins for that line.
