Objective: Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography based on coded harmonic angio-mode (CHA-mode) is capable of assessing blood flow in small areas and is useful for differential diagnosis of hepatic tumors. The present study attempted three-dimensional (3D) imaging of hepatocellular carcinoma using CHA-mode contrast-enhanced ultrasonography. Methods: Ultrasound equipment: LOGIQ 7 (GE-Yokogawa Medical System). Contrast mode: CHA-mode (mean MI: 1.0, transmission 2.0 MHz, reception 4 MHz). Levovist 1V (1 ml/s) was injected intravenously, and about 40, 120, and 300 seconds later, sweep scans were performed using continuous transmission while sandwiching the hepatocellular carcinoma to create 3D images using the built-in 3D mode. Subjects: Ten patients with hepatocellular carcinoma underwent CHAmode contrast-enhanced ultrasonography. Results: CHA-mode contrast-enhanced ultrasonography enables not only staining and identification of hepatocellular carcinoma, but also assessment of the 3D structure of vessels and their relationships with hepatocellular carcinoma.
