A deservingness analysis can help determine whether a welfare policy or practice will benefit society. Laura Tarkiainen, a university lecturer and postdoctoral social work researcher, establishes that the discourse on deservingness (e.g., welfare deservingness) is particularly important from both the standpoint of the modern welfare state and from a sociohistorical perspective. By concentrating on the analysis of the discourse and rhetoric of policymakers, reality TV contestants, frontline workers, and unemployed individuals, Tarkiainen successfully expos the phenomenon of deservingness in the 21st century in the book "Deservingness in Welfare Policy and Practice: Discursive and Rhetorical Approaches." In relation to welfare, poverty, class, and care arrangements, Tarkiainen explores and demonstrates how deservingness can be viewed as a discursively and rhetorically complicated phenomena with a variety of empirical implications. Tarkiainen provides examples of how moral activity is carried out in a variety of discursive contexts with varied material and symbolic ramifications. Five subchapters are presented after the first chapter, which focuses on conceptualizing deservingness usi
