This study examined the best position and depth of anesthesia for removing a laryngeal mask airway in children. 216 children aged 1-16 undergoing elective surgery using an LMA were randomly assigned to have the LMA removed in either the lateral or supine position under deep anesthesia or while awake. The fewest airway complications occurred when the LMA was removed in the lateral position under deep anesthesia.
