What is Information-Based Design for Environmental Problem Solving about?
Axiomatic design is a general method that helps designers structure and understand design problems, thereby facilitating the synthesis of suitable design requirements, solutions, and processes. The approach also provides a consistent framework from which the merits of designs can be quantified. In this paper we briefly review the tenets of axiomatic design, and demonstrate how information content can be applied to environmental design problems-an issue that is becoming increasingly important. A prototypical computer pmgram is used to illustrate the approach.
