What is Next Generation Network Overview about?
Next Generation Networks classify networks based on how information is transmitted. Circuit switching uses dedicated circuits for each call while packet switching breaks data into discrete chunks sent through the network. Signaling System 7 (SS7) is used for setting up telephone calls over circuit switched networks. Mobile networks evolved from analog 1G to digital 2G networks using circuit switching, to 3G and 4G using packet switching which provides higher data rates and lower costs.
