About this document

Confucianism by Xintao Lu is a document available to read on EtoBox.

This is a paper where I trace the evolution of the Confucian Revival Movement in contemporary China since the mid-1980s. I provide the evidence to suggest that Confucianism was adapted and reintroduced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as an attempt to solve a certain set of problems, e.g. the problem of Chineseness, the problem of social stability, and the problem of legitimacy. But at the same time could be a potent force for social change for the grassroots.
