The Punjab government has increased the monthly wages of sanitation workers in Punjab. The Director Local Bodies of Punjab announced that the wages of sanitation workers have been increased from Rs. 130 to Rs. 160 per day. This will benefit over 117,000 sanitation workers in the state. The additional hike will cost the state exchequer approximately Rs. 197.24 crore annually. The Director also said that the new wages will be applicable from December 1, 2011.
