## Abstract This chapter explores the reception and influence of both the event of Second Vatican Council and its documents in the life of the Reformed churches and in their relationship with the Catholic Church. Some of the best qualified and most ecumenically committed Reformed theologians served as participant observers at the council, where they contributed in significant ways to the debates. They would testify that the experience of the council event itself was far more ecumenical than the printed documents. Most of their criticism of the various drafts and final texts was very positive and constructive, intended to aid the process of perpetual reform of which, the council admits, the Church always has need. Vatican II’s renewal of the liturgy, its ecclesiology, and its Decree on Ecumenism established a new context for Reformed–Catholic relations.
