What is Passive Sampler of Organochloride Compounds in Water and Air about?

Organochlorine compounds are hydrocarbons with more than one chlorine atom in their structure. Among the compounds with the greatest environmental repercussions are organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins, furans, chlorobenzenes, chlorophenols, alkanes, and chlorinated alkenes. They were designed for multiple applications, and consequently, have been released into environment for decades. However, for an adequate remediation strategy, it is important to determine their contents in water, soil, and air. To do this, two forms of sampling can be used, however, chapter focuses on passive sampling. Passive samplers for monitoring contaminants are gaining importance at an international scientific level since as they can be used to establish contamination trends, or to verify compliance with criteria of environmental quality. In particular, the use of functional polymers for this application is analyzed and discussed.
