What is History and Objectives of OAU about?
The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was formed in 1963 by 30 African states in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to promote unity and solidarity among African states. It aimed to eradicate colonialism from Africa and coordinate cooperation on political and economic issues. While OAU succeeded in supporting liberation movements, it struggled with development, conflicts, and human rights issues. In 2002, OAU transformed into the African Union to address its shortcomings.
