Lapu-Lapu, born in 1491 in Mactan, Philippines, was a datu known for his victory over Spanish forces led by Ferdinand Magellan during the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521. This triumph delayed Spanish occupation of the Philippines by about 40 years, and he is recognized as the first Filipino hero. In honor of his legacy, April 27th is celebrated as Lapu-Lapu Day in the Philippines.
