The document discusses the history and purpose of the "living newspaper" theatrical form. It provides context that the living newspaper was used in the early 20th century in the USSR and Germany to dramatize current events and social issues. In the US, the Federal Theatre Project initiated the living newspaper form in 1935 to vividly portray realities around agriculture, housing, and economics through a cinematic style. Examples of living newspaper productions from the Federal Theatre Project are provided.
