What is Understanding McGregor about?

Douglas McGregor proposed two theories of employee motivation: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X assumes employees dislike work and need to be coerced, while Theory Y assumes work can be natural and employees will be committed if their higher-level needs for esteem and fulfillment are met.
