What is Measuring Heat of Fusion for Ice about?

This experiment measured the heat of fusion of ice. Ice cubes were added to warm water in styrofoam cups until reaching equilibrium temperature. The temperature change and mass of water and ice were used to calculate the heat of fusion using the formula: heat lost by water = heat to melt ice + heat to warm melted ice. The average calculated heat of fusion over 3 trials was 334.64 J/g, close to the accepted value of 333.55 J/g.
