About this document
Empennage Sizing for Aircraft Design by Ujwal Dhakal is a document available to read on EtoBox.
This document describes the process used to size the empennage (horizontal and vertical stabilizers) of an aircraft. Empirical formulas from Raymer (1992) relating stabilizer area to wing area and geometry were used. The tail moment arms and a new parameter called L(w-t), the distance from the wing trailing edge to empennage leading edge, were varied to calculate possible stabilizer areas. Aspect ratios and sweep angle constraints from Raymer and other sources were then applied to select final stabilizer de
